Soup kitchen in HebronHebron 29.10.2005: Yesterday, hundreds of people queued outside the Ibrahimi soup kitchen in Hebron waiting for food that will feed their families during the Holy month of Ramadan. The meal was donated by the Temporary International Presence in Hebron (TIPH).

Providing for the poor families of Hebron during Ramadan, the TIPH will on Monday at 1300 hrs take responsibility for a second day of food distribution at the Ibrahimi soup kitchen in Hebron. International observers will personally assist in the actual handout of the food rations.

Located in the old city, the Ibrahimi soup kitchen distributes soup on a daily basis to those in need. About 500 families in Hebron use the soup kitchen to supply their daily meals. Yet pressure has run particularly high during Ramadan when this well known establishment run by the Ministry of Waqf and Religious Affairs prepares approximately 500 kg of fresh meat every day. The distribution of the Ramadan meals has a daily cost of about ten thousand shekels.

– The Ibrahimi kitchen is a very, very important institution for many families in Hebron. The TIPH is proud to make this small contribution to the soup kitchen, particularly during the Holy month of Ramadan, TIPH Head of Mission, Arnstein Overkil says.
