In the morning of 13 December, TIPH visited Al Hajerya, Hebron Basic and Khadija Bint Khowiled schools located in the challenged Tariq bin Ziad neighborhood to distribute school relevant emergency medical supplies. The TIPH project is carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, and in total, 28 schools in H2 will be equipped with emergency medical supplies. The remaining 25 schools will receive the packages on 14 December.
– A good education and happy childhood is fundamental as a basis for a prosperous life. Being able to go to school, to learn from their teachers and to play with their friends, is a basic right that all children have, and it is important to TIPH and to me as Head of Mission, that we do our outmost to make sure that the children in Hebron have that possibility and that they feel safe in school, says TIPH Head of Mission Geir Holmenes.
Due to the continued volatile and challenged situation in many neighborhoods of Hebron, especially in H2, and to increase the feeling of security and the wellbeing of Palestinians, TIPH remains committed in supporting schools in H2, especially in the Tariq bin Ziad and Jabal Jawhar. These schools are situated near several checkpoints and as Palestinian ambulances have often difficulties reaching the schools, first aid competences and equipment are of crucial importance.
– These schools are situated in areas where there are often demonstrations and confrontations. By providing the schools with the equipment so that the teachers will be able to provide first aid in emergencies, hopefully the children will feel safer going to school and be able to focus on their education. The teachers have all received training in first aid, and our nurses will also give training to the staff on the schools, to ensure that they feel comfortable and confident in providing basic first aid, says TIPH Head of Mission Geir Holmenes.
The medical supplies contains basic first aid materials, masks, gloves, stretchers and ice spray.
