Hebron 19.09.2006: On 19th of September TIPH invited the children in Hebron to the Friendship garden in the Old City to enjoy games, music and sweets. More than 200 children celebrated the soon-to-come holy month of Ramadan together with TIPH observers.
The ‘Fun Festival’ was an afternoon of music and games for the children of the Old City. The kids participated in collective games, sang songs and enjoyed a theatre performance. The children clearly showed their appreciation of the activities with laughter and smiles. The ‘Fun Festival’ was organized by the TIPH in cooperation with Sharek Centre.
The Fun Festival was an opportunity for the TIPH to mark the prelude to the Holy Muslim Month. During Ramadan, TIPH will sponsor flour to the bakeries of the Old City. Thanks to this, bread and Qataif will be sold at half price in during the entire month. The support and distribution of the flour is conducted in cooperation with Hebron Rehabilitation Committee.
One of the goals of the TIPH Ramadan activities is to encourage all Hebronites to visit to the Old City of Hebron, to visit their relatives and shop in the souq.
‘The Old Souq is too often deserted, said Nathalie Chuard, Head of the Research, Analysis and Information Division of the TIPH. ‘During the ‘Fun Festival’, children brought back life and activities to the Souq. TIPH hopes that this event could be the first one in serials of activities that will lead to visits and shopping in Old City’.
TIPH is an international observer mission that works to ease the life of the Palestinian population in Hebron, and to create for them a feeling of security. TIPH reports on breaches on agreements and internationally recognized human rights.
