The week that past: 29 November-5 December

During the week that past, TIPH welcomed the European Union Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process at the TIPH HQ. TIPH Head of Mission met with a delegation from the Embassy of Switzerland in Israel and the Representative Office in Ramallah. TIPH observers participated in a tour of the Old City in Hebron organised by HRC and TIPHs Gender Adviser took part in a manifestation addressing violence against women organised by local organisations in Hebron.

TIPH Head of Mission met with a delegation from the Embassy of Switzerland in Israel and the Representative Office in Ramallah. TIPH observers participated in a tour of the Old City organised by HRC and TIPHs Gender Adviser took part in a manifestation addressing violence against women organised by local organisations in Hebron. 

On 30 November 2015, TIPH attended a rally organised by the Governor’s Office on the occasion of the UN campaign on ending violence against women. The rally took place in Ibn Rushd Square in Hebron and some 70 women and men from a wide variety of local organisations participated. Among the speakers were Governor Kamel Hamaid and Director of Women’s and Children’s Affairs Safaa Abu Sneineh, both urging for cooperation and action in working on Women’s Rights. At the end of the event, orange balloons were released into the sky, as a symbol of the campaign.20151130 Gender violence 1.jpg

Some 70 women and men gathered in Ibn Rushd Square to rally against gender-based violence.

On 2 December TIPH Head of Mission Geir Holmenes met with the deputy of the Embassy of Switzerland in Israel Corinne Cicéron Bühler and the deputy of the Representative Office of Switzerland in Ramallah, Yachar Nafissi-Azar and a delegation from both offices.

The visit was part of a series of meetings that the Head of Mission conducts with the embassies, representational offices and consulates of TIPHs contributing countries during November and December. Among other things, the delegation and Head of Mission discussed the situation in Hebron.

On 2 December TIPH Deputy Head of Mission Stefano Nencioni met with the European Union Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process (EUSR MEPP) Ambassador Ferdinando Gentilini at the TIPH base in Hebron to discuss the situation in Hebron and recent developments.

On 5 December, TIPH Head of Mission is attending the Christmas Tree Lightening Ceremony in Bethlehem on invitation of the Mayor Bethlehem Ms Vera Baboun.
