Hebron 01.02.2006: As-Salam Alaikum. The Temporary International Presence in the City of Hebron (TIPH), after almost a decade of presence among the Palestinian honored community in Hebron, considers the Palestinian people with much appreciation and respect for their kind hospitality.

We, the TIPH, are very proud of being in your city and consider ourselves as part of the Palestinian community and would like to confirm once more its respect for the local traditions and the values of brotherhood, tolerance and non-discrimination which have their source in Islam.

The TIPH members believe in the freedom of opinion, respect for religions and traditions and reject any kind of discrimination. Some members of the TIPH are Muslims and of Arabic origin and practice their religious ceremonies and traditions freely.

The TIPH has been invited to Hebron by the Palestinians for the benefit of the Palestinian people. Therefore the presence of the TIPH in Hebron is in the interest of the Palestinians and is a great opportunity to enhance the mutual relationship based on respect and understanding between peoples.

We, the Head of Mission and all the members of the TIPH, express our strong disapproval of the caricatures insulting the Prophet Mohammad, Peace be upon Him. The TIPH would like to call for the respect of religions and cultures to encourage understanding among human beings. As-Salam Alaikum.

Arnstein Overkil, Head of Mission.
