Several Injured in Hebron Demos

Observers from the TIPH monitored closely the demonstrations in Hebron on Friday the 25th of February. The demonstrators demanded the down town al-Shuhada street, which is closed by for Palestinians for security reasons, to be reopened. In several places demonstrators clashed with Israeli and Palestinian security forces.

Observers from the TIPH monitored closely the demonstrations in Hebron on Friday the 25th of February. The demonstrators demanded the down town al-Shuhada street, which is closed by for Palestinians for security reasons, to be reopened. On several places demonstrators clashed with Israeli and Palestinian security forces.

TIPH performed observations from fixed positions, on foot and by car in order to monitor the situation. An estimated 1 500 protesters took part in the manifestations, held in central parts of the divided town. According to media, several demonstrators were hospitalised in clashes.

– We will analyze our observations. Our observers have fulfilled their tasks in a professional manner, and collected a large amount of data, photographs, video material and so forth, which will help us compile reports on the event, says TIPH Head of Mission, Einar Johnsen.
