Town Hall meeting at Hebron municipality
As part of its activities related to TIPH ten years presence in Hebron, a Town Hall meeting was organized on the 4
th of February. Head of Mission, TIPH Legal Adviser and other TIPH members responded to direct questions from the audience,
related to its work and history in the city of Hebron. In its outreach to Hebron community, TIPH is planning a similar venue
in H2.
Supporting Micro-Finance projects in H2
Since January 2007, TIPH is engaged in collaboration with Palestine for Credit & Development (FATEN). The donation over an
amount of 10 000 $ aims at the support of income generating activities in H2. The fund is to be managed according to FATEN’s
lending methodologies and guidelines. As donor, TIPH has the right to identify the lending methodology and major guidelines
as the area of the beneficiaries. It will also receive periodic reports that show how the donated money has been managed in
a period of 3 months.
Empowering teachers from H2 in Art education
In December 2006, TIPH supported the Plastic Art Centre in H2 to realize a calligraphy course for teachers from several schools
in H2. The participants, for many of whom it was the first further training in their work, realized the value of art in the
education of children. The course was also a perfect occasion for them to exchange experiences and improve their network.
TIPH used this venue to hold an info session about its work and mandate.
Four Braille machines for Hebron Directorate of Education
Since many years, TIPH is aware that blind teenagers and youths in Hebron lack the proper equipment to support them with their
handicap. The donation aims at facilitating the capability of the department to integrate blind pupils into the public education
system. The Braille machines were delivered to the Director of the Directorate of Education in a small ceremony on 18 December
2006, in presence of TIPH Head of Mission, Arne Huuse.
Old City’s Medical Days
In December 2006, TIPH coordinated and financed the realisation of five medical days in the Old City, in collaboration with
several local organisations. A total of 920 patients received free medical consultations, cases that needed urgent follow
up were sent to hospitals or doctors where they got discount. For the realization of the project, the entry of a mobile clinic
into the old city was necessary. TIPH successfully coordinated with IDF and a Palestinian vehicle could access the old city
through Beit Romano Iron Gate.
Safe playground in Djabal Djawhar area
In November 2006, TIPH co-sponsored the preparatory work for a safe playground in a new community centre administrated by
Al-Mahawer Society. Beneficiaries will be families, youths and children from Djabal Djawhar and Wadi An-Nasara, an area which
faces huge difficulties due to its vicinity to the Kyriat Arba settlement.
Renovation inside Qurtuba School
In October 2006, as a part of its ongoing support of the Qurtuba School in Tell Rumeida, TIPH financed urgently needed interior
renovations. The work consisted of painting the interior walls, doors and ceilings. The Hebron municipality offered free manpower
for the project.
Subsidizing bakers in the Old City
During the Month of Ramadan 2006, TIPH sponsors the flour used for traditional Ramadan sweets and bread made in the bakeries
of the Old City of Hebron. TIPH supplies the bakers with 27 000 kg of flour, allowing Hebronites to purchase these products
at half price during Ramadan. The aim of the project is that the reduced prizes will attract more people to the Old City,
and thereby increase the general social and commercial activity in this area. The support and distribution of the flour is
conducted in cooperation with Hebron Rehabilitation Committee.
One day of serving at Ibrahimi Soup Kitchen in the
Old
City
On Friday 29
th of September, TIPH sponsored the Ibrahimi Soup Kitchen in the Old City in Hebron. Meat and bulgur were served from 12.30
to 14.30. The Soup Kitchen is run by the Ministry of Waqf and Religious Affairs. According to its administration, there is
a greater demand during Ramadan, and approximately 3000 persons were served that Friday. TIPH observers took part in serving
the food to the Hebronites. The sponsoring of the meal is part of the TIPH campaign to support the Old City in the H2 area.
Fun festival for children in the Old City
On 19th of September, TIPH invited the children of Hebron to the Friendship Garden in the Old City to enjoy games, music and
sweets. More than 200 children celebrated the soon-to-come month of Ramadan together with TIPH observers.
The ‘Fun Festival’ was an afternoon of music and games for the children of the Old City. The children participated in collective
games, singing and enjoyed a theatre performance. They clearly showed their appreciation for the activities with laughter
and smiles. The ‘Fun Festival’ was organized by TIPH in cooperation with Sharek Youth Centre.
Income generating agricultural project
During June and July, 40 women from the Old City of Hebron received a 20 hours training course in rabbit breeding. At the
end of the training each of the women received a unit of two female rabbits, one male and all the necessary equipment to start
a rabbit breeding project on their own
. This project was implemented by the Union of Agricultural Working Committees.
Summer camps for 1000 children in Hebron
This summer a total of seven summer camps were funded by TIPH and implemented by Hebron Directorate of Education,Sharek Youth
Centre,Hebron Youth Club, Al Ahli Club, Palestinian Sports for all federation (PSAF) and Federation Sportive et Gymnique du
Travail (FSGT). Sport, culture and education were the main focus of the activities in the summer camps that took place in
various locations in area H2 in Hebron. A total of 1000 children participated in the summer camps, which were free of charge.
Psychosocial support for single parent families
Human Appeal is a charitable society that among other activities support single parent families in Palestina. In the period
of from January to September 2006 Human Appeal in Hebron, with the financial support from TIPH, ran a program aiming at giving
psychosocial support for 30 single mothers and their children. The program included educational sessions about child psychology,
conflict resolution in families and the challenges of a single mother. The sessions were based on interactive didactical techniques
and the aim was also for the group of mothers to become a support for each other also after the ending of the program.
Primary health care mother and child
From May 2005 to April 2006 TIPH sponsored a project offering pre- and post natal health services for mothers and their babies
in the neighborhoods in and around the Old City of Hebron. Approximately 1500 woman benefited from regular medical checks
and treatments offered through this project. Also educational sessions were held to raise the lever of awareness on health
issues relevant for mother and child. The project was implemented by Ard al-Atfal, a Palestinian NGO that is dedicated to
offer the neediest and deprived communities with primary health services and education.
