Developing contacts with the community

The TIPH Project Manager works on developing networks and creating contacts with the Palestinian community, local authorities and business. On behalf of TIPH, she also identifies and carries out projects, which, once implemented, are meant to serve the local communities and bring about a positive change in their situation.

— I spend most of my time out of the office, says Project Manager Hazel Lian Zimeri. To get projects running smoothly you have to be a natural part of the project life cycle. As such, you get to know people well and can be present if problems arise. It is also a great way to get to know the society here from the inside.

Hazel has been working in the oil industry the past years, where she has been part of a team carrying out projects in Norway and the Gulf.

— TIPH is at the moment looking into new projects and we are still assessing the sustainability of these.

Hazel has a broad academic background and has been interested in the Middle East for many years. She spent her first months in TIPH as an Arabic speaking observer, patrolling the streets of Hebron on an everyday basis.

— I studied Arabic, first because I wanted to be able to read the philosophical texts translated from Greek, and then I became curious about the Arab societies and their political logic. The great hospitality here is also reason enough to return to the Middle East.
