On 25 June, TIPH, in cooperation with Hebron-France Association and Hebron Rehabilitation Committee, arranged a cultural evening in the Old City.

The aim of Art Space Hebron was to support and promote art and cultural activities. Two Swedish artists, Lina Selander and Katarina Nitsch, who have been filming in the West Bank, presented their video installations, and local artists were playing oud and reciting poetry. There was also an exhibition of old photos of Hebron.

The Spanish Academy, with its architecture typical for the Old City, provided a good atmosphere, and the people who came were served traditional Palestinian snacks.

—My intention was to turn away from the conventional image of Palestine and the conflict as emphasized – and exploited – by the mass media. Instead I wanted to reflect on the layers of control, dreams and confinement, both in relation to the place and to the problem of expressing it, said Swedish artist Lina Selander.

According to UNESCO, “Heritage is our legacy from the past, what we live with today, and what we pass on to future generations. Our cultural and natural heritages are both irreplaceable sources of life and inspiration.”

—Art is an important element in the development of any society, says Nasrin Hoseini from TIPH`s Community Relations section. TIPH arranged this event in order to promote the revival of cultural activities in the Old City. Art Space Hebron is a step in the right direction.
