On 1 March 2016 Brigadier General Einar Johnsen is replacing Brigadier General Geir Holmenes as Head of Mission for the Temporary International Presence in Hebron.

On 1 March 2016 Brigadier General Einar Johnsen is replacing Brigadier General Geir Holmenes as Head of Mission for the Temporary International Presence in Hebron.

Brigadier General Einar Johnsen will lead a group of 64 civilian observers from the six contributing countries of TIPH (Denmark, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey) in their efforts to observe, monitor and report on the situation in Hebron.

Brigadier General Johnsen, who served as TIPH Head of Mission from 20 September 2010 to 19 January 2012, has vast experience from international peacekeeping and peacekeeping missions in the Middle East and Balkans. After completing his tour as TIPH HOM in 2012, he served as Chief of Arms Control Branch for the Norwegian Armed Forces and served as Deputy Head of Mission for the United Nations Truce Supervision Organisation, UNTSO, in Jerusalem from 2013 to 2015.

– I am excited to be back in TIPH and my intention is to continue the important work that TIPH is carrying out in the city. I have visited Hebron several times since I left the mission in 2012, and it always felt like coming home. I am looking forward to work with the Palestinian and Israeli Authorities and support them in their efforts to maintain normal life in the city of Hebron, says TIPH HOM Einar Johnsen.

On 3 March the TIPH Local Contact Group, LCG, held a meeting at TIPH headquarter in Hebron. The LCG, which is comprised of representatives from the embassies in Tel Aviv and the representative offices to the Palestinian Authority, welcomed the new Head of Mission, meet with the mission members and discussed the important efforts of TIPH in the city.

– The contributing countries reconfirmed their full commitment to TIPH and reassured their support of the city of Hebron and its population, says TIPH Head of Mission, Einar Johnsen.
