For the second year in a row The Temporary International Presence in Hebron (TIPH) sponsors the flour used for traditional Ramadan sweets and bread made in the bakeries of the Old Souq of Hebron. The number of bakeries that take part in the program have almost doubled this year to 15 bakeries. (Hebron 12.09.2007)
– We hope this will encourage people to come to the Old Souq during Ramadan and help increase trade, not only for the bakers but for the surrounding shops as well, TIPH Head of Mission Karl-Henrik Sjursen says.
The distribution of the over 30 000 kilos of flour is conducted in cooperation with Hebron Rehabilitation Committee.
TIPH will also organize an Iftar (breaking of the fast) at the Al-Qazzazin Mosque – in the heart of the old city on Friday the 21 of September. The open Iftar will be foremost for the old city residents.
In addition TIPH will be sponsoring dates that will be handed out at the Ibrahimi Mosque Soup Kitchen every Friday during Ramadan as a greeting to the people who come there for their meal.
